Warriors Announce Additions To Athletic Training Staff
Chad Bergman Named Head Athletic Trainer; JoHan Wang Named Director of Athletic Performance
The Golden State Warriors have hired Chad Bergman as the team’s head athletic trainer and JoHan Wang as director of athletic performance, it was announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreements were not announced.
Bergman, 36, joins the Warriors from the San Antonio Spurs, where he spent the last six seasons as the team’s assistant athletic trainer. A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, he originally joined the Spurs in 2003 as the team’s equipment manager before being promoted to assistant athletic trainer. An Indianapolis native who spent 13 years as an Indiana Pacers ball boy, Bergman graduated from IUPUI in 2000 with a degree in exercise science and was named the athletic trainer for the Fayetteville Patriots of the NBA Development League in 2001.
Wang, 36, comes to the Warriors from the Los Angeles Clippers, where he spent the past eight seasons as the team’s associate athletic trainer, including the last three seasons with the added title of associate strength and conditioning coach. A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and National Strength and Conditioning Association, Wang spent two years (2001-03) working on the athletic training staff at Stanford University before joining the Clippers. A Bay Area native from Sunnyvale, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California – Davis and his Master of Science Degree from Boise State University. Wang’s introduction to the NBA came when he served as an intern on the Warriors’ athletic training staff in 2001.
Bergman and Wang will join assistant athletic trainer Frank Bernard in forming the team’s athletic training staff. Bernard is entering his 10th season with the organization, the last eight of which he has served as assistant athletic trainer.
